A Journey into Cabbey Quilting

  

"Cabbage Quilting" is a creative quilting technique

that transforms fabric scraps, crumbs, and traditional

patchwork into unique usable fabric. It's an ecofriendly,

thrifty, and fun way to repurpose every piece

of fabric with zero waste, including orphan blocks

and even that “ugly fabric” you don’t know what to do

with. I offer classes and patterns to teach you how to

grow your own "cabbage leaves" and design

stunning, one-of-a-kind quilts. Join me in this

sustainable and therapeutic quilting adventure, where

recycling meets creativity!

An Introduction to Hawaiian


Aloha! Have you always admired Hawaiian

quilts but felt a little intimidated to try one?


This class was designed for you.


Join quilter and hula dancer, Mary Pat

Hampton, for an introduction to the traditions,

stories, and techniques behind these beautiful

quilts. Together we’ll learn the basics of

Hawaiian appliqué and begin a simple project

you can continue at home.


No appliqué experience needed — just a love

of quilting and a willingness to try something

new.


This fun, beginner-friendly class will guide you

step-by-step through the traditional

techniques that make these quilts so

beautiful.


Come enjoy a relaxing, creative time while

learning a quilting tradition inspired by the

beauty of the Hawaiian Islands.

- How folded fabric creates stunning symmetrical designs

- How to cut and prepare a Hawaiian appliqué pattern

- Needle-turn appliqué techniques

- The basics of traditional echo quilting


Supplies

◦ 2-22” squares of contrasting fabric

(1 for the pattern and 1 for the

background

◦ Hand sewing needles

◦ Thread to match appliqué fabric

◦ Basting Thread- use any extra

thread you have

◦ Sharp Scissors (paper and fabric)

◦ Straight Pins

◦ Assorted Needles (Applique,

quilting, etc)


I’ll have patterns ready, so you can focus

on learning the technique.




Intro to the Mariner’s Compass

~Strip Piecing Method~


Love the look of a Mariner’s Compass but don’t want to

paper piece or use templates?? Then get ready to do

some stripping, strip piecing that is!


This 16 point Mariner’s Compass block can be made

either as a Skinny or Fat Mariner’s Compass depending on

which unique ruler you chose.

The beauty of this ruler is you can make blocks in 16

different sizes with several variations. Once you get the

basics that will be taught in this class, you can unleash

your imagination and create dazzling blocks and quilts.


In this class we will be making the basic Mariner’s

Compass block as shown in the photos. We will even go

over the different ways to finish the blocks. When you

sign up for the class you will get a handout with the little

bit of prep work to complete before class, so we all get

our bearings straight and sail to a perfect finish!


This class is Confident Beginner Friendly. Students get to

choose which kind of compass they will make - Skinny or

Fat
