Gulf States Quilting Association (GSQA)  is a quilting organization that was established in 1984 to create, stimulate, maintain and promote an interest in all things related to quilts and quilt making.  The geographical boundaries of GSQA include Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, and the Florida panhandle.

The membership of GSQA is comprised of individual members that are members-at-large or members of  the network of GSQA affiliated chapter guilds.  Community events organized by GSQA include quarterly meetings, classes, quilt shows, seminars, workshops, lectures and retreats.

You can find out more about membership on the Membership tab.

Quarterly July Meeting Speaker

For our July 18/19 meeting we have Barbara Lyons coming.  Her lecture is “Hidden in Plain View:  Quilts and the Underground Railroad”.  Location is First United Methodist Church, 208 Pine St., Long Beach, MS.  The hosting guilds are Bay Oaks Quilt Guild, Magnolia Quilters of Orange Grove and Sand Stitches Quilt Guild.

Mrs. Lyons is a wife, mother of two, grandmother of three, a published author of fiction, and a licensed Baptist minister.  She is also a proud recipient of the University of Mount Union 2010 Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership and Diversity Award.

Mrs. Lyons was taught by her mother at a young age how to be proficient with a needle and thread.  She started with making doll clothes which led to making her own clothes, then her family’s clothes, and finally evolved into a bona fide addiction to all things fiber, be it fabric, yarn, animal fleece, or plant fibers.  She sews, knits, spins, quilts, and even makes her own soaps and personal care products.

Welcome to the GSQA website! We hope you find the site easy to use and can access all the upcoming events and news for the guild.

The website should be easily viewable on computers or phone screens. Use the main menu to navigate the site (above on computers, to the left on phones).

Be sure to check out the Wild Apricot for Members app available for both Androids and Iphones.

If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback on the website, please email us at gulfstatesquiltingassociation@gmail.com.

2026 Quilt Show Information Coming Soon

Welcome from the President

Welcome to Gulf States Quilting Association’s year 2025.

This will be an exciting year as we prepare for our 2026 Quilt Show. I look forward to working with GSQA’s wonderful Board and all of our members to get ready for this great event.

I hope all of our members are working on their beautiful quilts so they can enter them in our 2026 show.

Volunteering to help with the Quilt Show will give you a new appreciation and understanding of all the work and planning involved in this production. I learned a lot volunteering at the 2024 Show, had a lot of fun and made some great memories.

Since I joined GSQA over 20 years ago I can’t tell you how many friends I have gained, lessons

I’ve learned and goodness knows how my quilt making has improved. All due to the opportunities GSQA provides as a member. POE’s (Pursuit of Excellence), Circuit Teacher Classes, Workshops taught by National Teachers the day before our Quarterly Meetings, Lectures from National Teachers at our Quarterly Meetings, Traveling Teacher Program, all are opportunities to learn new techniques, gain knowledge, and meet new friends and sometimes get a new dessert recipe.

As a Quilter you could not ask for a better organization to join.

Glenda Copeland,

2025 GSQA President
