For our July 18/19 meeting we have Barbara Lyons coming. Her lecture is “Hidden in Plain View: Quilts and the Underground Railroad”. Location is First United Methodist Church, 208 Pine St., Long Beach, MS. The hosting guilds are Bay Oaks Quilt Guild, Magnolia Quilters of Orange Grove and Sand Stitches Quilt Guild.
Mrs. Lyons is a wife, mother of two, grandmother of three, a published author of fiction, and a licensed Baptist minister. She is also a proud recipient of the University of Mount Union 2010 Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership and Diversity Award.
Mrs. Lyons was taught by her mother at a young age how to be proficient with a needle and thread. She started with making doll clothes which led to making her own clothes, then her family’s clothes, and finally evolved into a bona fide addiction to all things fiber, be it fabric, yarn, animal fleece, or plant fibers. She sews, knits, spins, quilts, and even makes her own soaps and personal care products.
