Oh My Gosh - Tiny Logs

Oh My Gosh” is the reaction most quilters have when they see such small log cabin blocks (1¼”). This miniature Log Cabin quilt is paper pieced. What a great way to use those left over scraps. The scalloped edge in the outer border was added for design interest. It could be optional.

(Pattern required $5.00)

Scrap Happy Stars

A wonderful quilt to use your scraps! The block is a slight variation of the Road to Oklahoma block. Try it in a miniature or a lap size quilt. Instructions will be given for both a 2” miniature size and an 8” traditional size block. Pick your choice. The 8” block is a good use for 2½” jelly roll strips.

Strong contrast between light and dark value fabrics is recommended. Miniature quilt size finishes 11” x 14”. Lap quilt finished 60” x 76”. The light background fabric may be scrappy or a common light fabric.
(Pattern and Handout $6.00)

Kaleidoscope Ii - more fun with design

Kaleidoscope I was taught to learn how to piece the Kaleidoscope block and create a traditional "K" quilt top. In Kaleidoscope II the piecing process will be reviewed for new students with hists to perfect the piecing for those who are familiar with the block. Hopefully no more hills or valleys in the center of the blocks. More time will be spent discussing creative design options using the Kaleidoscope block as a base for design. And this could become a slide show presentation.

This class is more design then piecing with no particular project top in mind. My desire is to share many possible design options that a student can pick and choose to create their own unique Kaleidoscope quilt at any level of complexity they can handle. The supply list will reflect this openness in fabric requirements. Minimum fabric will be given with the hope that they have access to more to create their own design or they can use bits and pieces to create sample blocks in class and select enough fabric later for the personal creative design.

All pieces are easily rotary cut using a Kaleidoscope ruler: class block size is 9". Out block will have 8 wedges or 45 degree angles (NOT the 60 degree rulers).

My preference is the Kaleidoscope ruler by Marti Michell which comes multi sizes the large ruler is required for the class. if students want to make smaller blocks they might want to get both.

Small Kaleido-Ruler (2"- 8" blocks) Large Kaleido-Ruler (6" - 16" blocks)

Because students will be precutting some strips, please do not bring a different Kaleidoscope ruler to class to use as it may not use the pre-sized strips cut for class. It is OK to bring other K rulers for discussion and show and tell - BUT NOT USE for this class.

Supply list will be provided before class.
