Let’s Rock the Blocks
Want to make a whimsical quilt for kids, have a set of off-sized blocks, or looking for a way to set blocks in a modern set? This and many more setting options can be done by “twisting” pieced blocks or fussy cut squares. Come learn various techniques or ways to twist a block for a quilt setting. In class, a morning discussion and illustration of these techniques are followed by an afternoon session of selecting a twisting option and design set for a collection of pre-class made blocks or squares that student bring from home.
Here are two quilts illustrating two different rocking block techniques.

Oh My Gosh - Tiny Logs
Oh My Gosh” is the reaction most quilters have when they see such small log cabin blocks (1¼”). This miniature Log Cabin quilt is paper pieced. What a great way to use those left over scraps. The scalloped edge in the outer border was added for design interest. It could be optional.

Float the Monkey
Are you tired of losing points in blocks? Come learn to "Float" the traditional Monkey Wrench block, make a friendship star sashing and use the left over triangles for a pieced border. Lap size quilt finishes approximately 64" x 80.5". Makes a wonderful scrappy quilt, but would look equally nice from a line of fabric. A common background fabric is recommended. Block size is 12". This quilt won an award at a GSQA show.

Charmingly Easy
Charmingly Easy is a quick and easy lap size quilt, approximately 54” x 64”. It was designed to use 2 charm square packs, each 40 squares, and one additional background fabric. Students also have the option of cutting their own charm squares for a scrappier look. It does sew up fast and could be made larger with additional charm squares. Finished block size is 10”.

Scrap Happy Stars
A wonderful quilt to use your scraps! The block is a slight variation of the Road to Oklahoma block. Try it in a miniature or a lap size quilt. Instructions will be given for both a 2” miniature size and an 8” traditional size block. Pick your choice. The 8” block is a good use for 2½” jelly roll strips.

Strong contrast between light and dark value fabrics is recommended. Miniature quilt size finishes 11” x 14”. Lap quilt finished 60” x 76”. The light background fabric may be scrappy or a common light fabric.
